Where to buy commuter bike in Seattle?

I am trying to get back into shape and save gas by not using my car so much but, I am not knowledgeable enough concerning the right type of bicycle for me. I just need a dependable bike more suited for daily commuting to and from work. Somthing like a hybrid (combo. of a typical 'ten speed' touring bike and a mountion/trail bike) might work. I will be riding in rainy weather also so, traction is a major factor. I am not up on the current levels/standards that make a bicycle good or bad. I am more interested in purchasing a bike from a local dealer rather than online. Am I open to the idea of buying a used bike or buying from a 'pawn' shop. Any suggestion?

  1. In Seattle I recommend Recycled Cycles. They are a great shop. They sell a wide range of bikes and manufacturers including Kona, Raleigh, and many others.

They will fit you for the bike and their service is excellent. They do sell used bikes which they completely refurbish, these are excellent bikes as well as new.

I have many friends in Seattle who ride and this is one of the best shops.

  2. Your best bet would be check with your local bike shop. You’ll be able to see the bikes they have in stock, see what you like and get fitted properly for the right size bike. And you will be able to talk to a knowledgeable sales person. Plus when you need repairs, you’ll have a place to bring the bike.

  3. $800 US will get you a nice new ’07 Kona Jake Cyclo-cross bike. Add some fenders to keep the spray down from wet roads and you will have a killer-fast commuter with knobby tires for a bit of off-road/gravel riding. Manufactured (assembled anyway) just across the border to the north from you. Maybe pick one up next visit to Vancouver – Dizzy Cycles is one of the larger Kona dealers in the lower mainland.
