What’s the best bike for touring, commuting and off-road?

Single Speed Bike or Fixed gear bike?
Multi gear is not an option here.
Im planning to ride my bike in and out of the city.

  1. I'd go for a single speed, after riding both I still prefer to have the ability to coast and relax a little. If you still can't make up your mind though why not get a flip flop hub ( a hub that can run both a free wheel gear and a fixed gear), then all you have to do is flip your back wheel around to change from free to fixed.
There are a couple of nice flip flop hubs around, I can highly recommend the surly flip flop hub. Ask your local bike store they'll be able to show you some options.

  2. Single speed for sure.

  3. It's a no-brainer: the single speed bike is the best for all the purposes you've mentioned.

I like no-brainer questions. I can get half of them right.

    HTH

  4. Just curious, why is multi-gear not an option? For efficiency and function, multispeed is far better.

I understand that single speed and fixies are hip these days, and I'm fine with that, but then why would you ask which is 'better'?

  5. +1 up for the flip flop hub. Only cause its fun to say!

    LOL. "flip flop hub"
    Say that 10 times fast!
