Look for a commuter bike or a hybrid from the local bike shop. For a trip of only two miles an electric bike is not needed. For much less then am electric bike you can get a shop quality bikes that will last 10 times longer. Stay away from Walmart and other department store bikes. A 2 mile trip on a bike should take you less then 10 min on a hybrid. You can also ride them on smooth dirt bike paths like rail trails.

Check out Trek, Specialized, Fuji, Giant, Raleigh, Cannondale, Jamis, Breezer, Schwinn, and a few others.

for commuting trikkes (i'm assuming you mean those three wheeled scooterish things on the infomercials) are out of the question. 2 miles would be horrible...if even possible.
as for electric bikes schwinn has a new line out for 2009, but make sure you are looking at the schwinn select series (only carried by authorized schwinn dealers aka bike shops) not the stuff found at the big box stores. you can probably expect to pay somewhere in the 400 - 600 dollar range but it is one of the few new bikes (not a kit retrofitted to an existing bicycle) under $1000 or so that you can actually ride without the aid of the motor (most others weigh so much and are equipped with such low end parts that they would be very difficult to pedal) for a great commuter bicycle try looking at giant bicycles. the seek or tran send series is designed for commuting and giant bikes often offer the best bang for the buck when compared with the other big name companies.

A lot will depend on the terrain. A flat landscape will let you use any bike to commute this distance(I use a single-speed 29'er for my commute of similar distance on flat land). If you have some hills, then you'll probably need a geared bike. For this distance, any geared bike will be fine.

Also, will this bike be used for anything else? Not everyone is lucky enough to be able to own several bikes and use them for a dedicated purpose. If you plan to ride on longer rides for fun, etc, then a road bike or fitness bike with 700c wheels is the ticket.
