What’s the cheapest folding bike?
I'm thinking of using it for messenger work. I know a store selling a Kent Ultra Light Magnesium Compact Folding Bike for 9.99 plus tax using it for the meantime. I'll probably get another bike once I get more money to buy one, but for now would it be good?
See the bike: http://www.amazon.com/Kent-Ultra-Magnesium-Compact-Folding/dp/B000H6G146
So should I get the bike? Can I change some things on it to improve on it? And yeah mtbwacky, I don't think I can find a cheaper folding bike than that one. I seen some sites selling it for 8.99.
Oh yeah, and is Kent a decent brand?

YIPES! Don't get that bike unless are you are going to do is ride around the neighborhood.
I was involved in the design of that bike and the original customer abandoned it because it was so bad. The bike flexes so much it feels like you are riding a wet noodle- and it really isn't very light.
Kent is now owned by Walmart and they use it to separate their bike brand from the others they sell and allows them to sell through other outlets like amazon. Although the name Kent has been around for a long time it has always been synonymous for bad stuff.
Save your money a bit longer and look for a Dahon or other brand known for their folding bikes.
they have that one at wal mart for 150.00 the only problem with that bike is at the lowest gear number 1 you go at a waking pace so put it on or 3 but its a good bike oh ya take it for tune up at a bike store cause i dont trust wal mart
I'm almost positive that Walmart does not have any folding bikes. That Kent is cheap, I don't think that you can find a folding bike cheaper than that!
Read the multitude of reviews, it is not for serious use, it is 1/2 step above an interesting toy.
You did not say why you needed a folding bike rather than a traditional bike, but this ones reviews were not supportive of serious use.
sorry.
Messenger bikes have to be equipped well to withstand the rigors of the pavement—I suggest you get something from EBAY (www.ebay.com—Sporting Goods under CYCLING)—You might find a used bike ( mt. or road bike) that can suit your riding style. ( a mint or excellent condition bike would be priced less so you get more bang for your buck!)
