How tiring is it to ride a folding 16″ bike?

I mean, I'm used to do my routine -around 10 miles- in my hybrid bike with 26" tires, and everything seems to be fine, but the other day I picked for the same distance a folding 16" bike, and even though it was lot of fun the perspective and the response of the bike, I got my destiny sweating!
Is it normal this pronounced difference between both bikes or I did the wrong shifting or I am getting old!
Thanx!

  1. There are folding bikes that perform well, but they are very expensive. An average inexpensive folding bike is only meant for short distances, they are heavy, the frames are flexy, and the usually have poor quality wheels. A really good folding bike like a Moulton could be used for anything a full sized bike can do.
