How do you fix saddle-soreness?

...I went out for the first time on city roads on my Dahon and the only thing that is sore is my behind. Any suggestions on how to minimize my pain?

  1. If you haven't ridden a bike in a while, you will be sore for the first few rides as your body gets used to riding. Getting a good saddle and/or cycling shorts can help by providing a more comfortable fit and extra padding.

Make sure that you aren't leaning too far forward or too far back – you should be on your sit bones. To find your sit bones, sit cross-legged on a hard floor and rock back and forth until you feel the bones of your lower pelvis. You can also squat and feel the sit bones with your hands.

Once you know where your sit bones are, you can transfer that knowledge to the bike. When you are on the saddle, your abdomen muscles should be slightly flexed to support the weight of your upper body while keeping your sit bones in contact with the saddle.
