Recommend me a good road bike tire?

So I have been told that the tires on my bike (09 Cannondale Synapse 5 alloy... i have posted a few times about it). I was wondering what people are using? I like to maintain high speeds for most of my rides as well as go on longer 50 plus mile rides. I am going to use my tires for a while longer but am interested on getting some feed back from fellow cyclist. Currently I have Maxxis Fuse foldable, 700 X 23C tires and Shimano WH-RS-10 Rims.
I was also just starting to think of rims for the furture... like next year or later. What would be a good rim for under 1000... cheaper is probably better but I dont want to limit myself. I know you can go light, which makes off the line faster and more aerodynamic with helps cut through the air better.
I have currently upgraded the FSA Omega Compact Crankset to a Ultegra Cranset (no charge...lucky me) and ordered some Ultegra Sl Calipers (they where the same price as the 105s when i was searching for them online.
Thanks for any suggestions!

In general, I would suggest the answers to your questions lie in the statement "depends what you want to use them for". Tyres….. I’m assuming from your post & description of your current equipment that you are looking at something that is going to provide you with a good compromise between reliability & performance. Certainly, I’d be looking at a folding tyre with a high TPI count (threads per inch) & probably something that gives reasonable protection against punctures…consider Continental’s ‘GP’ series, Vittoria’s ‘Evo’ series & Michelins ‘pro race’ series, as those that have gained mass market acceptance.
As far as wheels go, same thing applies, " depends what you want to use it for", for $1000 there are plenty of ‘pre-built’ wheels available, I’d check out your LBS & get some ideas from them. A good LBS will be able to make some recommendations & may even be able to build you some wheels that will suit your requirements, significantly cheaper, than ‘pre-builts’…have a chat to them. Generally, lightweight is good, but not at the expense of reliability….’Bomb proof’ is great, but you’ll generally then have to sacrifice some weight. As with tyres, a compromise between weight & reliability is probably the way to go.
As for wheels, you don’t need to spend anything near $1000 to have a wheelset that would completely Wow! you. See if you can get a recommendation for the best wheelbuilder in your area and discuss it with him. If you don’t have anyone near you, call coloradocyclist.com. If I wanted another set of wheels and didn’t have the means to build them myself or have a local builder, I’d go with those folks. I’ve ridden with a couple guys that felt their cc-built wheels were among the best they ever had. They could lace up a set of Mavic Open Pros to Dura Ace hubs for around $550. For about the same price, you could have Mavic Reflex Tubulars on D/A hubs if you wanted to ride sewups. The difference between either of these and your current rs10s would be like night & day.
For tires, Conti GP4000s, but I want to try the Schwalbes one of these days.
