Who makes the best quality folding bicycles?

i've been looking at dahons recently, but they've gotten some mixed reviews as to the quality of their bikes (their prices are pretty high as well)...anyone know where i can find a good, reliable folding bike?

  1. Giant makes one called a Halfway that is about 450. Citizen Bikes make one for less than 200, but I don’t know anything about the quality. Sunn makes a really basic one around 300. Most others like Bike Friday, Birdy, Brompton are even more expensive than the Dahons. You might check want ads, it seems people either love or hate folders, and you might get one cheap there. At the bottom end, Walmart carried one for a while, but I don’t know if they still do.

I have heard only good things about Dahon, but have never personally owned one.

  2. It really depends on the distance you want to ride and what terrain to determain on the componantry level wheelset and most of all comfort. take a few brands to find a comfy bike or the ride will not be comfy.

  3. I haven’t tried any myself, but am looking at various models right now. I’m really interested in the Downtube – www . downtube . com as a relatively cheap solution. You have to realize that you’re not going to get Pro quality at that price point, and be happy with it.

If you really want Pro quality, go with Bike Friday – and be willing to pay for it.

  4. Although I’ve never riden a "Bike Friday" they are apparently phenominal bikes. They come in various price ranges but if you want to get any kind of quality bike you’ll pay for it. Check them out they are pretty cool. I first read about this company about 6 years ago.
