How to make folding bikes fold even smaller

The main appeal of a folding bike is that you can fold it up to occupy less space than a regular full-size bike. That's really handy when you want to take it on public transport, put it in the trunk of your car or store it away.

That's why the majority of folding bikes have smaller wheels. Not much point having a folding frame if you've still got two 26" wheels to contend with. So most folders have 20" or 16" wheels.

But what if you could fold the wheel, too? How handy would THAT be! Well, folding wheels are here.

The crossbreed folding wheel has a six-segment rim and scissor-type spokes that folds up into a compact flattened elipse. The crossbreed folding wheel is being developed in association with InnovationRCA, an innovation incubator affiliated with the Royal College of Art, London (birthplace of the Strida folding bike.)
