Copenhagen to charge cars for city access
Copenhagen will soon start charging motorists for entry into the CBD. This in a city that already sees 36 percent of its populace getting around by bicycle. The Danes have pioneered the adoption of bikes as urban transport but Copenhagen hasn't always been so bike-friendly.
In fact, its first purpose-built, segregated cycle path was created only 25 years ago. Unpopular at the time, the pro-bike measures that the politicians had the courage and foresite to push through have led to Copenhagen becoming a world leader in car-free urban transport.
If only more politicians had the courage of their election promises!
