Y\This time of year a pair of padded mtn bike shorts and jersey. I would at least change into a pullover there. If they have lockers either outside or in the gym, you can stash your changes there… and, if in the gym would be a great place to freshen up. If you have those king of facilities wear what you want, you gave it all covered.

In the summer, a short sleeve shirt and shorts, and carry regular clothes in a backpack.
If you are commuting daily, get yourself some coolmax shirts and padded riding shorts. The shirts cost an average of $12-$30. Padded shorts about $30-$50, depending on how much you want to spend and the milage you will be riding. I like wearing the Chrome Pro Knickers for riding pants. Very comfortable but a little pricey. $120 to be exact but they last a long, long, time. Gotta have the shirts though. The wind will go right thru you to keep you cool and wick away sweat. Good luck!
The best and worst clothing would be full racing lycra. Best: because the fit is excellent, and it is the most aerodynamic. Worst: because you would be bullied mercilessly for arriving at school in full lycra!!
