i also found on ebay an Everest pretty much same as above only a steel frame folding bike for 9

If you are just looking for a F/S mtn bike to ride around the neighborhood on go ahead and get one of those. If you are looking for a real F/S mtn bike for off-road use head to your local bike shop and expect to pay at least $800 for an entry level one. Giant offers the Yukon FX for around $800, this bike has received great reviews.
Edit: With the add. details you do not need a f/s bike. Being you will only see some light trail riding go with a hard tail mtn bike. You can find these at your local bike shop for a little more than your current price range and the bike won't fall apart in a few months.
