Bicycle commuters – reasons and criticisms?

What prompted your decision, environmental or economic issues, or something else? Also, do you find you get criticism from others who don't understand your choice?

I use my bicycle because i don’t drive and economic issues and to stay healthy
I have never been criticised for being a bike commuter. I mainly chose biking because it’s quicker than walking and I don’t drive!
